Sonic: The Demon Within

Ch. 16: Confessions

Amy awoke in a bright white room in a cozy soft bed. She was in pain but the clean white bandages covered her wounds. She slowly sat up straight, her body protesting her movements. A light hand clasped her arm and her gaze shifted to the side. Tails was sitting in a chair next to her bed, smiling sweetly at her. Amy smiled back at him until she remembered why she was here. The sabertooth, the torture, Sonic. Sonic! Where is he?! She almost jumped off the bed at her own thoughts. Her actions startled Tails, who almost fell out of his chair.

“Where’s Sonic?” She asked in a panicked voice. Tails’ face held a kind smile and he kept a soft soothing tone.

“Amy, relax. He and Knuckles went after Akuma,” he replied.

            “Who’s Akuma?” she said, confused.

“He’s Dark Sonic. The two were separated back at that warehouse,” Tails told her. “But there’s no need to worry. I’m sure that Sonic and Knuckles can handle him.” Amy wasn’t so sure, not after what she saw in that horrible place before she lost consciousness. Suddenly, everything began to shake, the lights flickering in response. Tails ran to the window and peeked between the blinds. There was a crazy storm outside and fire in the streets below. Lightning struck just outside the glass and Tails fell over backwards, screaming. He stood up on shaking legs and walked slowly back to the pink hedgehog. Why did there have to be lightning? An electrical surge hit the lights above them and the long cylindrical glass tubes shattered. The two screamed as the glass shards fell on and around them.

“That’s it! I need to find Sonic!” Amy yelled, trying to climb out of the bed. Tails quickly intercepted her and tried to lay her back down.

“No, Amy! You need to rest!” he reasoned. “Sonic will fix this. He knows what he’s doing!” Amy shook her head, pushing his hands away.

“But there’s something wrong. I can feel it!” she cried.

“I promised Sonic that I would stay here and make sure you’re safe. He would kill me if I disobeyed him again!” Tails shouted. Amy’s hammer made a sudden appearance and the young fox backed away slowly.

“I’m going to find Sonic and I’m not going to let you stand in my way Tails!” she shouted back with a serious expression. “So you can either help me or get out of my way!” The fox-boy would’ve argued if it weren’t for the red mallet in her grasp. He gave a sigh of defeat, handing the bloodied red dress and boots to her. Once she was dressed, they raced through the dark halls, down the stairs, and out the door. The two hopped into the X-Tornado and took off into the cloud-covered night sky. Rain poured down, obscuring Tails’ view through the plane’s windshield. They saw a bright greenish-blue glow reflecting off the clouds and they followed it to Angel Island.

The island had fallen into the ocean and there was some sort of bizarre lightshow on its surface. Tails flew closer to the action to find Knuckles lying injured on the ground and a golden streak mercilessly attacking a blue figure. Amy gasped as the attacker repeatedly struck Sonic’s limp body in the air. He fell toward the ground and was caught by the golden being. Sonic squirmed in its grasp until he was shot back by some sort of explosion.

“SONIC!!!” Amy screamed, crying her eyes out. She opened the hatch and jumped out of the plane while it was still in the air.

“Amy, WAIT!!!” Tails called, but it was already too late. She landed hard on the ground, twisting her ankle in the process. She felt a pain in her stomach and realized her stitches had ripped. Looking up, the golden being was getting closer to Sonic. She saw the look on his face, the intense pain it held. She saw him coughing blood and her heart ached at the sight. Amy stood up, limping on her hurt ankle. Fresh blood from her reopened wound was staining her dress. Pushing through the pain, she hobbled toward him. The golden being picked him up by the throat and was squeezing the life out of him. She ran faster, pulling her hammer out. She ran as fast as she could, the fear of losing him gripping her chest. Once she reached them, she put all her strength into one powerful swing. Her hammer collided with the golden being’s face and it released its grip on the weak blue hedgehog. The force from the hit sent the being skidding across the island and falling into the ocean.

Amy knelt down and held Sonic in her arms. She supported his head with her left arm and placed her right hand lightly on his chest, looking down at him with scared, wet eyes. He was coughing, struggling to breathe, and he opened his eyes to stare up at her face.

“Amy?” he asked in a weak, choked voice. “What are you doing here?”

“I knew something was wrong, so I had to find you! I’m so sorry, Sonic! If I had come just a little sooner, this wouldn’t have happened to you!” she cried, more tears falling down her face and landing on his bloodstained fur. “I’m so sorry!!!” Sonic placed one hand on hers, giving her a warm smile.

“It’s not your fault, Ames…” he reassured her, coughing again. Amy cried even harder, an intense sadness in her eyes, a begging tone in her voice.

“PLEASE don’t leave me, Sonic! You promised me you wouldn’t, when you finally came back from Chris’ world, remember?” Sonic thought back to that day. Amy had been crying then, too, except then it was tears of joy. Don’t you ever leave me again, Sonic the Hedgehog! she had said. He knelt down in front of her, handing her a beautiful white rose. Don’t you worry, Amy. I never will. He had promised her that and he could never forget it. And he didn’t think he would break that promise, especially not in this way. “Don’t you dare die on me Sonic the Hedgehog! You can’t-”

“Amy…” he stopped her, giving her hand a light squeeze. He could barely breathe at all, exhaustion coming over him. He fought to stay awake just a little longer. There was one last thing he needed to tell her. She deserved to know this, and he had been an idiot to keep it from her all these years. With a shaky breath he spoke, his voice coming out as only a whisper. “I love you…” He smiled at her and gazed into her jade green eyes. Then his drifted closed.

Death surrounds

My heart beat slowing down

I won’t take this world’s abuse

I won’t give up, I refuse

This is how it feels when you’re bent and broken

This is how it feels when your dignity’s stolen

When everything you love is leaving

You hold on to what you believe in

“The last thing I heard

Was you whispering goodbye

And then I heard you flat-line”

No! Not gonna die tonight

We’re gonna stand and fight forever

(Don’t close your eyes)

No! Not gonna die tonight

We’re gonna fight for us together

No, we’re not gonna die tonight

Not Gonna Die by Skillet

Would you hate me if I said the story's over? Haha! That would be too evil now, wouldn't it?
